How To Dispose Of A Mattress
Usually guidelines state that you should replace your mattress every 6-8 years, this means that you should have an old one to get rid off each time too. There are a few ways to do this, however, please try your best to make the best decision for the environment.
Waste Removal
If you’re hiring a skip for other reasons, you can definitely include yours in there as long as you let us know in advance. We do charge an additional fee of £45-40 +VAT per mattress. This option is definitely best if you have general mixed waste to fill the skip as well as the mattress. We charge an extra fee as they can cause safety issues when loading onto the truck at the time of collection. There are other waste removal services you can use such as “man with a van” or you could take it to a local waste recycling center near you.
Re-use Or Sell
You may have upgraded your bed to a bigger size, or just got rid of a spare bed, either way, if the mattress is in good condition you have other options rather than throwing it away. You could re-use it in a different room, maybe even the kids’ treehouse! If it is of no use to you the best option would be to ask around friends and family, if nobody needs one you can advertise on selling sites or Facebook Marketplace. There are various charities that would be very grateful for a mattress, especially helping the homeless.
There are various ways to dispose of your old mattress, all depending on its quality and condition of it. Donating and selling is a great option for good condition items as it gives them a new lease of life and stops it from ending up in waste facilities. If you have any items for your skip that you’re not sure about putting in, check our waste restrictions page for more information. Call our friendly customer service team for any further assistance.
