Tips For Hiring A Skip

Commercial Waste Reduction

Our main goal is to ensure that every customer has an easy experience. That is why we want to provide you with valuable tips that can help you get the most out of your booking.

Use A Legitimate Company

Before booking always make sure to check the credentials of any company you are thinking about using. There are numerous ways you can check the reviews for companies including websites such as Trustpilot. Using these means you can be confident that your waste will be disposed of in the correct way, rather than being fly-tipped or sent to landfill.

Check It Fits

Once you’ve found a good reliable company to use, you will need to figure out where you’re going to keep it. Do you have a private driveway? If so it will need accessing by the truck (not at an angle) and the skip will require at least 3 meters of clearance distance once set down. Check our size guide to figure out what size you think you’ll need and whether it will fit on your property. If it doesn’t you can always use public space as long as we can obtain a permit on your behalf. If you’re debating between two sizes, we always suggest going for the bigger one as it’s much easier to do than exchanging. Overfilling a small skip can land you with a hefty £85 wasted journey charge as well as a skip you’ll have to empty before we attempt collection again.

Filling Your Skip

Your skip can only be filled to the level line, anything above that is classed as over-filled and will be dangerous to transport. This includes greedy boards, we can’t risk damage or injury to others by loading an overflowing skip. Please make sure this isn’t the case to avoid wasted journey charges. When your collection is due, you will need to make sure that the skip is filled properly, free of any obstructions, and in the correct place.

Wasted Journeys

Another reason you may end up with charges is if we collect your skip and see it is filled with heavy waste such as soil or concrete. There are restrictions, you can find here, on how much heavy waste can go into certain skips. We cannot load these skips as they are too heavy and the truck may fail if it attempts the collection. Generally, these apply to skips under 6 yards but it’s always better to check before putting anything in your hired skip.

Use these brief tips to make sure that you get the most out of your skip. It is super important to make sure that the company you use is legitimate and has good reviews. At reliable skip hire Oxford we love knowing that your waste is always going to the best place possible. Check your quotes on our site and book online within minutes.
